BudgetÂ
Before you get started on your used car search, know what your budget is and what you can buy within that budget.Â
The CarÂ
What will you use the car for and it will it be daily? Knowing how often you will need to drive this car will let you know if a certain amount of miles on a used car are too much for you to even consider it. You can also search to see the average amount of total miles that particular car brand/model tends to get before major repairs need to be done or before you will need to buy another car.Â
The book value of the car is something you can research ahead of time so you know if the price being asked is within a reasonable range. It's a good idea to know what comes standard on the car so if the car does have upgrades, you can again know if the price being asked is reasonable.Â
You will also want to know the car's history. You can check online yourself providing you have details like the VIN number. A dealer will also be able to provide you with info including repair history. Gathering as much information about the specific car you select is very important before proceeding with your purchase.Â
Warranty
For any used car you're considering, a warranty will be important topic to discuss. If a warranty is very important to you, you may want to consider only purchasing from a dealer. Certified used cars may cost more but they may work out better for you in the long run. Ask about cost for an extended warranty as well.
