5 Ways to Stay Alert While Driving    
 
No one should ever drive while sleepy, that goes without saying. Though there are times where some of us could use a mental boost to keep us focused and alert while behind the wheel. I've been known to miss turns because I'm too busy singing along to the radio! Had I followed these tips, I probably wouldn't have gotten lost… 

  • Suck on a peppermint candy or chew mint gum. Mint has properties that energize us and help us focus on the task at hand. That's why many teachers give their students mints before big tests. 
  • Stopping at Starbucks helps. In fact, any caffeine increases alertness. Drink up! 
  • Stay hydrated. I know, caffeine is a known culprit of dehydration, BUT alternating between a coffee and some water is a great way to keep your fluids and energy up! 
  • Nibble on healthy snacks. Giving your body some nourishment means it functions better for you. Think: fruit, granola, cheese. 
  • Open the windows. Fresh air and the noise from outside can shake off fatigue.   

If you're feeling too tired to drive, follow the best tip: pull over and nap. Don't put yourself or anyone else at risk.
