Off Road Capability of the 2022 Wagoneer
Brought to you by East Hills CDJR
The Wagoneer is back for the first time since 1991 as its own extension of the Jeep brand and is coming back with world-class features inside and out, a powerful V8 engine, and Jeep's legendary off-road capability. The 2022 Wagoneer offers three rows and first-class luxury, but it doesn't miss out on any of the fun that Jeep provides with its 80 years of off-roading experience. The Wagoneer's capability starts with a potent 5.7L V8 engine that provides 392 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, the Wagoneer can tow up to 10,000lbs. The next capability features are three available 4x4 drivetrains, Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II with a limited-slip rear differential. These systems are controlled by Selec-Terrain traction management system with five selectable drive modes. Lastly, Quadra-lift air suspension is standard to provide up to ten inches of ground clearance and a smooth, cushioned ride on all road surfaces.
How Does Quadra-Trac I Work?
Quadra-Trac I is a full-time four-wheel-drive system that doesn't require the driver to pull a lever or hit a switch. This automatic system provides seamless operation on various road conditions and smoothly modifies itself to provide the best possible traction. The single-speed transfer case provides instantaneous slippage detection and can send up to 100% of torque to the wheel with the most traction.
How is Quadra-Trac II Different?
Instead of a single-speed transfer case like the one in Quadra-Trac I, the Quadra-Trac I transfer case has two speeds. Like the first drivetrain, Quadra-Trac II employs a network of sensors to sense wheel slip and redistribute the torque to counteract it, the same way as Quadra-Trac I. Throttle control is also used to predict rapid vehicle movement from a stop to improve traction before slipping occurs.
Quadra-Drive II
Quadra-Drive II operates similarly to the first two drivetrains but is the only one to use an Electronic Limited-Slip Rear Differential. This system is capable of predicting and detecting slippage and smoothly redistribute torque to the tires with the most traction. The system is also capable of predicting low traction and adjusting itself to limit the slippage or avoid it altogether.
What is Selec-Terrain?
Selec-Terrain is Jeep's Traction Management System and it is a remarkable feature that gives the 2022 Wagoneer models their extraordinary capability. Selec-Terrain allows drivers to choose between Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, and Sand/Mud modes that coordinate all of the four-wheel-drive features to provide maximum traction wherever your travels take you. Auto mode puts the system in control and uses a network of sensors to automatically adjust to changing road conditions. Sport mode supplies a fun driving experience with throttle control and transmission shift points. Rock mode raises the Quadra-Lift suspension to 10 inches of ground clearance and coordinates the transfer case, differentials, and throttle to provide low-speed crawling control. Snow mode adjusts the traction control system to provide steady traction on snow-covered roads. Sand/Mud optimizes the Quadra-Lift and traction control systems to immediately respond to wheel spin and redistributes torque to prevent slippage in these conditions.
What is Quadra-Lift and How Does it Work?
Quadra-Lift is an air ride suspension that can add up to 3.6 inches of lift span to the suspension. Jeep engineers decided to use air suspension because it supplies an air-cushioned ride on all road conditions and can provide up to a towering 10 inches of ground clearance. Quadra-Lift has five adjustable height settings that can either be controlled manually on a console control or automatically using sensors. The first mode is Normal Ride Height (NRH) which provides 8-inches of ground clearance. Off-Road one raises the suspension a whole inch to provide 9 inches of ground clearance while Off-Road 2 kicks it up to 10 inches to provide unbeatable off-road capability. Park mode will lower the suspension 1.6 inches from NRH to make the Wagoneer easily accessible. The last mode is Aero mode which lowers the suspension 0.6 inches from NRH to provide maximum fuel economy and performance on normal road conditions. Aero mode is automatically engaged when Selec-Terrain is in Sport mode.
