Jeep Compass Maintenance Schedule

Learn How to Take Care of your Compass Here!

Jeep vehicles, including the Compass, are well-built vehicles, engineered to keep you on the move. However, no matter how well a vehicle is made, all vehicles require maintenance to keep them in peak operating condition. To help you give your Jeep Compass the care it deserves and keep it on the road for many years to come, we're offering you a detailed outline of services to perform as your mileage goes up. Continue reading below to learn more!

7,500 Miles

When your Compass crosses the 7,500-mile mark is when Jeep recommends getting its first oil change. After this, oil changes should be done every 7,500 miles under normal driving conditions. However, if you use your Compass for off-roading or frequent highway driving, oil changes should take place sooner, approximately every 5,000 to 6,000 miles. With every oil change, the tires should also be rotated to prevent any uneven and premature wear. At approximately 15,000 to 16,000 miles, the second oil change and tire rotation should take place. At this service, the exhaust system, brakes, engine cooling system, and air filters should be checked.

30,000 Miles

At the 30,000-mile service, an oil change and tire rotation should be performed if it is due. In addition to the usual checks and services, Jeep recommends having other systems and components checked. The driveline fluids should be checked at 30,000 miles. These include the fluids in the transmission, front, and rear differentials. As with the oil in the engine, these fluids can break down and become contaminated with metal shavings which causes them to not provide proper lubrication. The spark plugs should be inspected at 30,000 miles as they can begin to show signs of their age. If the engine air filter has not been replaced by this service, it should now be replaced. Lastly, it's important to have the steering, suspension, and braking systems thoroughly checked for signs of wear or damage.

60,000 Miles

Between 30,000 and 60,000 miles, keep getting routine oil changes, tire rotations, and necessary inspections. If the spark plugs were not replaced at 30,000 miles, they should be done no later than 50,000. Then, when you reach 60,000 miles, the engine cooling system will most likely be ready to be flushed and refilled with fresh fluid to prevent overheating and corrosion of the engine's metal. In addition to checking the spark plugs again, the ignition cables, otherwise known as spark plug wires, should be inspected and replaced if necessary. Lastly, if you haven't replaced the brake pads and rotors, they will most likely be due at 60,000 miles.

100,000 Miles

Once you reach 100,000 miles, you've probably become an expert at maintaining your Compass. If your Compass is still being used for everyday driving after 100,000 miles, oil changes should take place more frequently, roughly every 5,000 to 6,000 miles under normal driving conditions. Additionally, the 30,000-mile and 60,000-mile services should be performed again. Lastly, the PCV valve should be checked and replaced if need be. PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation. The crankcase is what holds the engine oil. The PCV valve recycles waste gases from the crankcase back into the air intake system to be mixed with fuel in the combustion chambers. This process is in place to reduce emissions by recycling the waste gases instead of emitting them from the tailpipe into the atmosphere.
