The Jeep Wrangler joined the Jeep lineup in 1984, capturing the rugged design of the Willys Jeep MB that Willys-Overland developed for the U.S. Army in 1941. The rugged looks of the Wrangler have always been backed by its superior all-terrain capabilities, which have earned it legendary status in the off-roading community. As Jeep continues to blaze its own trail, the Wrangler returns to the Jeep lineup once again in the 2024 model year, bringing out all the rugged features along with new welcome additions to take it to the next level. Please continue reading below to take a first look at the reimagined 2024 Jeep Wrangler!

Updates to the Wrangler Lineup in 2024

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler lineup introduces some new members. First, the Rubicon X takes the world-renowned Wrangler Rubicon to new heights. While the standard Rubicon comes with Tru-Loc locking front and rear axles, Rock-Trac part-time 4x4, electronic sway bar disconnect, and more, the Rubicon X takes it to the next level with even more off-road-ready features. These include but are not limited to knobby 35-inch BF Goodrich KO2 all-terrain tires, replacing the Rubicon's 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac all-terrain tires, a forward-facing integrated off-road camera, steep bumpers, and Rock-Trac full-time 4x4. The 4xe lineup is also updated with the all-new Sport S trim, which brings America's best-selling PHEV a lower price point.

2024 Jeep Wrangler Engine and Drivetrain Options

Four engines make up the 2024 Wrangler powertrain lineup. Standard equipment is the 285-horsepower 3.6L Pentastar V6 which also provides 260 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the turbocharged 2.0L inline four-cylinder engine is available for 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes standard with the Sahara and Hgh Altitude trim levels. The Wrangler 4xe returns for 2024 with its PHEV powertrain featuring the aforementioned two-liter turbocharged engine along with a 33-kilowatt electric motor mounted to the front of the engine, replacing the alternator for optimal brake regeneration. Another 100-kilowatt electric motor mounted inside the transmission replaces the torque converter to provide the wheels with instantaneous torque. This setup gives the Wrangler 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, along with an impressive 49 MPGe. The last available engine comes exclusively with the Wrangler Rubicon 392. This excites with 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque from a growling 6.4L HEMI V8. The V6 engine comes paired with a six-speed manual transmission as standard equipment. However, an eight-speed automatic is available. Meanwhile, the 4xe lineup, Rubicon 392, and models equipped with the turbocharged engine come standard with the eight-speed automatic option. The Wrangler is known for its off-road chops, which begin with its standard and available 4x4 systems. Standard equipment for most Wrangler trim levels is Command-Trac part-time 4x4. Meanwhile, the turbocharged and 4xe models come with Selec-Trac full-time 4x4. The Rubicon comes exclusively with Rock-Trac part-time 4x4, while the Rubicon 392 and all-new Rubicon X come with Rock-Trac full-time 4x4.

What Are Some Updates to the 2024 Jeep Wrangler's Exterior?

Jeep continues the Wrangler's instantly recognizable design in the 2024 model year with some slight upgrades and modernizations. While the upright seven-slot grille with round headlights remains, the grille itself is updated. In its standard form, the grille features a body-color surround, Neutral Gray metallic bezels, and black textured slots. Meanwhile, select models make some slight variations. The Willys trim, for example, features a grille with a blacked-out look, with Gloss Black bezels and Gloss Black slots. The Sahara trim also features a variation, adding Platinum Silver slots and bezels. Meanwhile, the High Altitude features Gloss Black slots and Neutral Gray Bezels. In its current form, the Wrangler features a steel mast antenna, which is replaced by a stealth front windshield-integrated antenna to prevent the antenna from getting snagged on a tree while off-roading. Wheel options for the 2024 Wrangler range from 17 to 20 inches, with tires ranging from 32 to 35 inches. The Wrangler's standard removable soft top is upgraded for 2024. Still optional, however, are the body color and black hard tops. Open-air freedom is a staple of the Jeep Wrangler lineup, and the 2024 Wrangler gives more options to enhance the driver's open-air experience with available half-doors, Sunrider for Hardtop, and the One-Touch power top.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Wrangler Sahara and all the following trims add voice-activated TomTom navigation with live traffic updates and natural speech. There are also more than 85 safety features standard and available for the 2024 Wrangler. As standard equipment, the driver and front passenger are protected by front and seat-mounted side airbags, while both rows feature side curtain airbags. Dynamic grille lines come standard with the required backup camera to aid in reversing. Meanwhile, electronic stability control, traction control, and electronic roll mitigation all come standard with the Wrangler lineup.
