2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe at East Hills Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM

Introduced during the 2021 model year, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe became the first-ever Jeep to employ electric propulsion in the form of a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle system. PHEVs combine gas and electric power like hybrids. However, the battery pack is rechargeable. This gives you the benefits of an electric vehicle without being limited to the battery's range. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is returning for the 2023 model year even better than ever. Continue reading below to learn more!

Electric Mode

When the battery has more than a 1% charge, it can run in Electric Mode. This allows for nearly zero tailpipe emissions up to highway speeds. The vehicle can run in this mode for up to 21 miles

Hybrid Mode

The default mode, Hybrid, combines torque from both the 2.0L turbocharged engine and the electric motors. This combination provides maximum horsepower, instant torque and the best acceleration. Electric power is consumed first.

Easily maneuver tight, treacherous trails or navigate around rocks or fallen logs with precision steering systems and high-performance wheelbases.

Good suspension and axle articulation help keep your wheels on the ground, allowing for maximum traction while going over obstacles.

How is the 2023 Wrangler 4xe powered?

As we mentioned above, the Wrangler 4xe uses a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle powertrain, which typically includes one or more electric motors powered by a rechargeable battery pack and an internal combustion engine. The Wrangler 4xe specifically uses one electric motor in place of the traditional alternator at the front of the engine and another that replaces the torque converter inside the eight-speed automatic transmission. Gas power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine. With this combination, the Wrangler 4xe offers 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of immediate torque. Even better, the Wrangler 4xe has a total driving range of 370 miles, a 21-mile all-electric driving range, and gets the gas equivalent of 49 MPG.

What Are the Trim Levels and Features of the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe?

The trim level lineup of the Wrangler 4xe was updated for the 2023 model year by adding the Willys trim. Inspired by the 1941 Willys Jeep MB, the Willys trim comes with rugged features like mud-terrain tires, a Trac-Lock limited-slip rear differential, and the shock absorbers and rock rails from the Rubicon. The Willys trim stands out from the rest of the lineup with an exclusive Willys decal on the hood and the 'Electric 4-Wheel Drive' decal on the rear swing gate. The Sahara trim follows up with heated/power side mirrors, 20-inch alloy wheels, LED exterior lighting, remote proximity keyless entry, push-button ignition, vinyl-trimmed seating, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen with built-in navigation. The Rubicon trim takes you for a walk on the wild side with the Rock-Trac 4x4 transfer case specially geared for phenomenal low-speed crawling control. The Rubicon also adds off-roading performance-enhancing features such as 33-inch all-terrain tires, electronic sway bar disconnect, high-clearance fender flares, FOX shock absorbers, hood vents, and black rock rails. Topping off the lineup is the High Altitude trim with body-color exterior elements, a body-color hard top, leather-trimmed upholstery, exclusive alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, side mirror-integrated turn signals, and blindspot monitoring.

Off-road capability of the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe

The Jeep Wrangler has a long reputation for being a powerhouse on the trails. And adding electric power to the Wrangler took that to a whole new level! All Jeep Wrangler 4xe models come with Selec-Trac 4x4. Selec-Trac is a full-time four-wheel drive system that detects changes in road conditions and maintains traction by automatically changing the gearing in the transfer case and redistributes torque to the axle with the most traction without any driver input. Because the electric power is distributed automatically, there is no delay from when you press the gas pedal to when the wheels begin to move. As every off-road enthusiast knows, momentum is everything, and this instant torque distribution keeps your momentum moving in the right direction. The Wrangler Rubicon 4xe's Rock-Trac 4x4 transfer case has a lower range gear ratio, making it ideal for crawling over trail obstacles at low speeds without losing momentum. Also aiding in the Rubicon's forward momentum are locking front and rear differentials.
