Pentastar V6
The standard engine for the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the Pentastar 3.6L V6 engine. This engine uses fuel-saving Electronic Start/Stop (ESS) technology to cut fuel flow and power down the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop to maximize efficiency. When the brake pedal is released, the engine will turn back on in a near seamless fashion. The Pentastar engine provides drivers with 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, giving it the ability to haul up to 6,200 pounds when properly equipped with the trailer tow package.
HEMI V8
The 5.7L HEMI V8 engine can be selected for any trim level. The engine uses an array of fuel-saving technologies, including cylinder deactivation. This advanced technology electronically disables four of the engine's cylinders when not all eight are needed. The result is greater fuel efficiency while coasting. When the driver reapplies pressure to the gas pedal, the other four cylinders reengage to supplement the additional power being requested. The engine also uses variable valve timing (VVT) to provide exceptional performance and fuel efficiency. The V8 engine provides an impressive 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, providing up to 7,200 pounds of towing capacity.
4xe PHEV
The 4xe powertrain was introduced to the Jeep Grand Cherokee lineup in 2022, adding the first-ever plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain to the Grand Cherokee's engine lineup. A PHEV system features a combination of gas and electric power. Gas power for the 4xe system is provided by a 2.0L turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine. Mounted to the front of the engine, where the alternator would normally be found, is an electric motor. Another electric motor can be found inside the transmission, where you'd normally see the torque converter. The electric motors are powered by a 400-volt, 17.3-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This setup gives the Grand Cherokee 4xe models 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, it provides the equivalent of 56 MPG, 21 miles of all-electric driving, and a 470-mile total driving range. The 4xe system is available for the Limited, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve trims while exclusive to the Trailhawk.
