2023 Jeep Compass Trailhawk Capability

Jeep upgraded the Compass's engine for the 2023 model year, replacing the 177-horsepower naturally-aspirated 2.4L inline four-cylinder engine is a turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine that delivers 200 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. The new twin-scroll, low-inertia turbocharger is mounted to the cylinder head to give the Compass greater responsiveness. Plus, the turbocharger allows for a smaller engine displacement, increasing fuel efficiency. Jeep paired the new turbocharged engine with Jeep's TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission. The transmission is upgraded to provide faster acceleration, smoother shifting, and higher torque responsiveness.

The 2023 Jeep Compass lineup uses Jeep's Active Drive 4x4 systems. Most trim levels, with the exception of the Trailhawk, use Active Drive. Active Drive will run in front-wheel drive to maximize fuel efficiency on dry and smooth roads, with the back wheels simply following. However, the Active Drive system features a disconnecting rear axle and a power transfer unit (PTU). When inclement weather or road conditions are encountered, the PTU will engage the rear axle, shifting the system into four-wheel drive to maximize traction. This requires no driver input and happens automatically using a network of sensors. However, the Jeep Compass comes with Jeep's Selec-Terrain traction management system, featuring Sand/Mud, Auto, and Snow modes. This adjusts the traction control, transmission shift points, torque split, and more to best handle the selected mode. The Trailhawk, however, uses Active Drive Low 4x4. The 'Low' in the name is because instead of a single-speed transfer case, the Trailhawk's 4x4 system comes with a two-speed transfer case, adding a 4-LO mode. When taking on rugged terrain at low speeds, shifting the transfer case into 4-LO mode supplies more torque to the wheels while keeping the speed under control to help safely crawl over rocks and logs. Additionally, the Selec-Terrain system adds Rock mode for the Trailhawk for a setting to handle steep rocky terrain best.

The Jeep Compass Trailhawk comes with an array of features to set it apart from the other trim levels, aside from the rest of the lineup. Most notable are the Trailhawk's signature red tow hooks, two on the front bumper and one on the left side of the rear bumper. Another feature that makes the Trailhawk easily identifiable is the anti-glare hood decal. This is black with a red stripe on the driver's side featuring a 'Trailhawk' inscription. This black and red theme continues to all the badging on the Trailhawk's exterior. The Trailhawk's exterior also features all-terrain tires to maintain a grip on any surface. Inside, the Compass Trailhawk comes with the Trailhawk emblem embroidered on the front seatbacks, a 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, red accent stitching, leather-trimmed upholstery, and more.
