With electric power, the Wrangler 4xe is more capable and fuel-efficient than ever! Continue reading below to learn more about the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and all it has to offer!

Uncompromised Capability

The Wrangler 4xe is the Industry's First Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle with a Front and Rear Locking Differential. Its system is paired with a 2.0L I4 DOHC direct-injection Turbo PHEV engine. A 17-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, regenerative brake booster and eight-speed automatic transmission work together to send impressive amounts of power and torque to each wheel, maximizing the capability of every component. The sealed and waterproof battery pack and electronics even perform in tough conditions like fording creeks and streams up to 30 inches in depth.

Venture Further

Electric hybrid power gives you the freedom to go long distances without the range anxiety. Whether you want to take an off-road adventure or simply get around town on all-electric power, the Wrangler 4xe features manufacturer's estimated 49 MPGe rating.

Powering The Trails

Harnessing the power of the sun, the Jeep® Brand is installing solar-powered charging stations on key trails in the U.S. so you can get a full charge before taking on the trails.

The Future Is Now

Forging a new path to the future, the Jeep® Wrangler 4xe is the Industry's First Electrified Open-Air SUV and the Most Planet-Friendly Wrangler Ever. It's hybrid innovation with no compromises, and it goes all in on fun.

Hybrid Mode

The default mode, Hybrid, combines torque from both the 2.0L turbocharged engine and the electric motors. This combination provides maximum horsepower, instant torque and the best acceleration. Electric power is consumed first.

Electric Mode

When the battery has more than a 1% charge, it can run in Electric Mode. This allows for nearly zero tailpipe emissions up to highway speeds. The vehicle can run in this mode for up to 21 miles.

Regenerative Braking

This feature allows the battery to be charged when decelerating and braking. The Max Regeneration feature remaps the accelerator pedal to command more aggressive regen at low pedal positions. It allows you to slow the vehicle down without the brake pedal, but a complete stop always requires the brake pedal. It also stays selected until you turn it off.

The battery can be fully recharged in approximately 2 hours using an available Level II charger (240-volt), or 12 hours using the included Level I charger (120-volt). With the ability to charge at home and work, you can enjoy the benefits of fully electric daily commutes.

What is the Hybrid Setup of the Wrangler 4xe?

As with any hybrid vehicle, the Wrangler 4xe uses an internal combustion engine with electric motors. Jeep gave the Wrangler 4xe a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four cylinder engine for the gas-powered system. Meanwhile, the electric power is provided by one engine-mounted electric motor, one transmission-mounted electric motor, and a 400-volt lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack. The Wrangler 4xe is the most fuel-efficient Wrangler ever, offering the gas equivalent of 56 MPG and a total driving range of 440 miles. Additionally, the Wrangler 4xe can run for 21 miles on electric power alone. In addition to the phenomenal fuel economy, the Wrangler 4xe offers drivers 375 horsepower and a remarkable 470 lb-ft of immediate torque.

Can I Still Take the Wrangler 4xe Off-Roading?

While it's easy to assume that the electric power of the Wrangler 4xe could negatively impact its performance on the trails, that statement could not be more false! In fact, the Wrangler 4xe is just as if not more capable on the trails as the gas-powered version. This is because all of the torque is available instantly, rather than waiting to build up RPMs. This allows you to pass over trail obstacles with ease. The Wrangler 4xe also comes standard with one of the same 4x4 systems as the gas-powered Wrangler. Selec-Trac 4x4 is a full-time system that is constantly sensing road conditions and uses a disconnecting rear axle to maximize efficiency in optimal driving conditions and enhance traction in bad weather conditions or off-roading. Exclusive to the Rubicon trim is the part-time Rock-Trac 4x4 system, which gives you the ability to shift into and out of four-wheel drive manually. The Rock-Trac transfer case has two speeds, allowing you to select 4-HI and 4-LO mode, depending on vehicle speed. The transfer case's lower gear ratio provides better traction while crawling at low speeds. The Rubicon also comes with locking front and rear axles to help keep all four wheels moving.

How is the Wrangler 4xe's Battery Charged?

The Wrangler 4xe is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, also known as PHEV. Being a PHEV, one can assume that its battery is recharged by being plugged in, and that assumption would be correct. When you purchase a Wrangler 4xe, with it comes a Level I EV charger. The Level I charger provides 120 volts and fully charges the Wrangler 4xe in approximately 14 hours. Meanwhile, owners can purchase a Level II EV charging station, which offers 240 volts and cuts the charging time down to as little as two hours. The Level II EV charger must be professionally installed, which is why Jeep partnered with Qmerit to provide installation and customer service for 4xe owners. The Wrangler 4xe also has the ability to charge itself on the move with regenerative braking. Regenerative braking, also called brake regeneration, is the process of taking the kinetic energy created by the friction of the brake pads pressing the brake rotors, converting it into electrical energy, and sending it back to the battery. While braking, this process will increase or maintain the battery's state of charge.
