Jeep fans asked for it, and Jeep delivered! The long-awaited EcoDiesel engine is here for the 2020 Wrangler! Any Wrangler of the four-door variety can install the 3rd-gen 3.0L EcoDiesel V-6 engine, ranked at 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque! It comes standard with engine stop-start (ESS) tech, its own automatic transmission, and will be the most fuel-efficient setup for the 2020 Wrangler! Did you know that this engine is the 3-time winner of "Wards 10 Best Engines" (2014-2016)? This is a significant development for the beloved Wrangler, so let's get into what this engine option has inside!

- 442 lb-ft of torque enhances driving performance both on- and off-road
- 3rd-gen Dana 44 front & rear HD axles
- A 3.73 axle ratio- Mitigated noise, vibration, & harshness (NVH)
- The compression ratio has been augmented to 16.0:1 from 16.5:1
- Novel mechanical low-friction pump with new blades
- A new 5.1-gallon diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) tank
A Reinforced EcoDiesel:
Jeep didn't just stick the engine in and cross its fingers, it instead added new elements to bolster and support it within the Wrangler! A few of these elements would include a dual loop exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system design, higher flow redesigned cylinder head intake ports, the latest-generation of a water-cooled turbocharger, and direct-injection fuel injector nozzles that cater directly to the combustion chamber! With a forged steel crankshaft, connecting rods, and four valves per cylinder in the dual overhead camshafts, this one will thunder past any opposition effortlessly!
The Transmission:
This engine is partnered right up to a recent arrival as well: the TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission that allows for over 40 different shift maps! It is specifically preset for the conventional dynamic torque demand of a Wrangler, as well as for low RPM shifts. These maximized shift positions bode well for important factors such as performance, 4x4 aptitude, and fuel economy.
The Transfer Cases:
Dual transfer cases are possible: a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio within the Rock-Trac 2-speed transfer case on the Rubicon model, and a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio within the Command-Trac part-time 2-speed transfer case on Sahara & Sport models. That means whatever you do with your Wrangler, including boat-hauling, 4-wheeling, and/or bouldering you are sure to be all set!
