2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2020 Ford Edge

One thing that SUV consumers never run out of is choice. There are seemingly hundreds of different SUV options on the market, and it can be hard to figure out which one is best for you. Fortunately, we are here to make your life a little easier. In this article, we are comparing two of the best SUVs on the market, the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2020 Ford Edge. Both of these vehicles are powerful, come riddled with features and options, and are two of the safest SUVs on the road. Both of these SUVs should be on your shopping list this year, but only one can stand alone as the best! Read on to see which is the standout.

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power & Handling

Four engine options are available for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, with the base being a 3.6 liter V6 with 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque with the choice of a 5.7-liter V8 with 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Both of these engines have more than enough power to meet your needs, with the V8 being an outstanding choice if you need to tow something. If you're looking for something even more powerful, the SRT trim comes with a 6.4-liter V8 with 475 horsepower that blasts to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. Meanwhile, the top-rated Trailhawk gets you a 6.2-liter V8, which is borrowed from the Charger and the Challenger Hellcat twins. The 707 horsepower allows the Grand Cherokee to blast to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds or less. All V6 engines come with rear-wheel-drive with the option of four-wheel-drive, while all V8s come standard with four-wheel-drive. All Grand Cherokees use an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the SUV can tow up to 7,400 pounds when fully equipped.

2020 Ford Edge Power & Handling

The main engine for the Ford Edge is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder which pumps out 250 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. While a tad underpowered, especially when you compare it to the Grand Cherokee, it does come with a handy stop/start feature that shuts off the engine in situations where you would otherwise idle. The feature allows for greater fuel efficiency. Front-wheel-drive comes standard with the option for all-wheel-drive if you so choose. The Edge ST has a turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque, which comes standard with all-wheel-drive. Both engines connect to an eight-speed automatic transmission and a variant of gearshift paddles mounted beneath the steering wheel to keep with its sporty status. The Edge can tow up to 3,500 pounds when fully equipped. These engines certainly will get you to where you want to go but lack the power and towing capability of the Grand Cherokee.

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Features & Design

Now available in seven trims, the Grand Cherokee offers you a ton of features and customizable options. The base Laredo comes with the V6 engine, a high-resolution 7-inch Uconnect touchscreen, blind-spot monitor, rear-cross traffic alert, a rearview camera, dual-zone climate control, and rear parking sensors. Stepping up a level to the Limited adds a power liftgate, power front seats, heated front seats, a power sunroof, and the option for the V8 engine. Higher-level trims come with a bevy of four-wheel-drive systems, a bigger 8.4-inch touchscreen Uconnect system with navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk comes with an outstanding Quadra-Drive II four-wheel-drive system, ventilated front seats, and a Harman Kardon audio system which is pleasing to the ears. The Grand Cherokee also comes with a bevy of driver-assist features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.

2020 Ford Edge Features & Design

The 2020 Ford Edge comes with some premium features, as well. The base SE comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights. Tech features include Wi-Fi for up to ten devices, satellite radio, rain-sensing wipers, remote start/lock/unlock, keyless entry and ignition, and a rearview camera. Every version of the Ford Edge comes with Ford's Co-Pilot 360, which has a ton of safety and driver aids such as forward collision mitigation with automatic emergancy braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist with automatic high beams. Higher-level trims include more features such as a Sync3 infotainment system, hands-free tailgate operation, and leather upholstery. Optional features for the Edge include a panoramic glass roof, a 110-volt power outlet, heated front seats, and a 12-speaker Bang and Olufsen audio system. Heated and cooled rear seats are also an available option on higher trims.

Conclusion:

Though this is a legitimate tough call, we are going to go with the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The engines are more powerful, which allows you to tow a lot more, and there are more features thanks to the seven trim levels.
