2019 Ram 1500 vs 2019 Ford F-150 near Long Island, NY

Pickup trucks may be one of the most competitive atmospheres in the automotive industry, with brands constantly innovating and engineering their vehicles to haul more, tow bigger, and drive longer.  An exemplary product of this competition is the all new 2019 Ram 1500, breaking into the market and immediately receiving positive review from critics and customers alike.  Everyone loves the new interiors and power upgrades the 1500 has received, but it is all just the glamour that surrounds a new vehicle?  Ford has long triumphed in the pickup world as the titan that cannot be put down.  Its F-150 has been a choice pick for industrious individuals nationwide, setting records in tow capabilities.  So how does the 2019 Ram 1500 meet or exceed the bar Ford has set?  Today we examine the Ram's new systems and see if a new champion has risen in the truck market.

2019 Ram 1500 Power & Handling

With some best-in-class horsepower and 4x4 efficiency performances melded with large weight capabilities, the Ram 1500 has distinctly created a force of power to be reckoned with.  Its engines have been enhanced with all new eTorque, a mild hybrid system that boosts torque output and fuel economy in both their engine options.  Two powertrain options is all you really need when you look at what they can do for you.  The base engine is the 305 horsepower 3.6-liter V6, giving you the best efficiency numbers you'll find with 20/25 mpg when RWD and best-in-class 19/24 mpg when AWD.  You won't find anything that matches the optional 5.7L V8 HEMI engine.  Not only is it available throughout all trims of the Ram 1500, it gives you best-in-class 17/23 mpg, also thanks to the optional eTorque.  Cruising for best-in-class mileage ranges for both V6 and V8 equipped Rams isn't all this truck does, though.  The Pentastar can tow a maximum of 7,730 pounds, the eTorque giving you 90 lb-ft of extra torque atop the engine's standard 269 lb-ft when you need the extra traction.  The V8 weighs in as a 12,750-pound heavyweight, also hauling a max payload of 2,300 pounds.  Both these engines comes with a class-exclusive eight-speed automatic transmission.

2019 Ford F-150 Power & Handling

Ford packs in power into its powertrains well, and you have six of them to choose from.  Options may be great, but Ford subscribes to the concept of tailor-made cookie-cutter trims that limit these engines' availability based on which of the six trims you choose.  The base engine is the 3.3-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque that can tow up to 7,700 pounds.  For its less thirsty engine, however, the Ford is less efficient, rated at only 18/23 mpg for its AWD vehicles.  You pay more for greater power, though, and you'll be three trims up and nearly $50K in before an engine becomes available that can compete with Ram's top tow performance.  This is the 5.0L V8 HEMI, generating 395 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.  If you want to exceed the Ram 1500's capabilities, the EcoBoosted 3.5L twin-turbocharged V6 engine that can tow up to 13,500 pounds is the choice for you, but it comes exclusively available in the top two trims which prices orbit around $65,000.  The price of use is nothing budget-friendly either, with this engine getting an efficiency rating that's only 15/18 mpg.  The base engine comes with a six-speed automatic transmission, while the others come with a ten-speed automatic transmission.

2019 Ram 1500 Features & Design

By far, the new feature getting the most compliments of the redesigned Ram 1500 has been its interiors.  We use trucks for so much more than simply hauling around big payloads and trailers these days, flexing between business and family, or work and play.  Build options range from Regular, Dual, and Crew Cabs seating anywhere between two and six passengers with a total of three bed lengths available.  In these builds, you have the availability of best-in-class interior storage space for all your business or hobby needs.  There's areas behind the rear seat, spaces beneath the seats, in the double glovebox and in the redesigned 1.5 cubic foot center console bin, and even in new hidden in-floor bins.  Handy innovations also include the hard-backed passenger seat that, when folded flat, provides you with a work surface for paperwork or assembly needs, and the cabin space has been redesigned with four more inches to make rear seat passengers more comfortable thanks to best-in-class legroom and finally a flat floor without the middle driveshaft bump.  In terms of features, the Ram supplies some of the best-valued around.  There's a standard touchscreen interface nested into the dash that supplies you with automatically included Bluetooth, voice recognition, two USB connections for charging and MP3 streaming, and an auxiliary port.  It's finally upgraded to standard power accessories, keyless entry, and push-button start, and the interior design is flowing with attentive craftsmanship when you realize each trim has their own thematic color palettes. Seats are upholstered in durable vinyl or cloth, with higher trims offering leather that sports trim-specific branding and stitching patterns.  Other upgrades include the largest-in-class 12-inch touchscreen model, LED lights inside and out, wireless smartphone app syncing with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and even WiFi 4G LTE Hotspot capabilities to really make your truck an office on the go.

2019 Ford F-150 Features & Design

Meanwhile, the Ford F-150 last saw a redesign in 2015, only providing customers with light tech upgrades to keep up with the changing times.  But this might be the change that Ford can't compete with, as Ram has taken the initiative to redefine the segment.  The F-150 similarly offers three body builds and three bed lengths to support your lifestyle, but its trim selection supplies you with less options available to support Ford's cookie-cutter designs.  The F-150 base is fairly bare bones compared to the new Ram 1500, with only manual single-zone air conditioning and manual-adjust mirrors, locks, windows, and seat adjustments.  There's only an AM/FM radio equipped, and you'll only find cloth as the F-150's entry upholstery option.  You'll have to move up in trims to even get a touchscreen, an oddity in today's market, wherein Bluetooth is the only standard programming within.  Other oddly optional equipment includes keyless entry, cruise control, anti-theft, and power locking doors.  Storage will also be a difficulty in the Ford F-150, as the Ram provides you with twice as much interior storage space.

Conclusions

More for less is a deal that anyone will prefer, and Ram definitely does so with its 2019 1500.  Ram has finally updated the truck into the standards we expect for a modern vehicle of any other class, conscientious of the fact that people use their pickups for so much more than utilitarian work needs.  They're just as much a multifaceted vehicle that tends to every need you'll have in everyday life, and it's about time they reflect how multi-purpose drivers need them to be for their work, play, and family.  The 2019 Ram 1500 has triumphed the truck segment in the modern market, and all its awards are well earned for doing so.  Don't believe us?  We have more information about the Ram's standard offerings just below for you to look through so you can be assured you're shopping for the best of the best.
