2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs the Competition

The 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs The Competition

The 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee competes in the midsize crossover segment. This is a market that has rapidly grown in recent years, and the list of entries is long.  With the competition so high, automakers have been doing what it takes to make improvements to cabin features, exterior design, and handling dynamics.  Jeep's entry into the segment is the Grand Cherokee. Two of the competitors to the Grand Cherokee are the Hyundai Santa Fe and the GMC Acadia. Here is a quick glance at how the Jeep matches up to the competition in various categories:

Horsepower Fuel Capacity (gallons) Transmission Engine Configuration
 Jeep Grand Cherokee 295 24.6 8-Speed Automatic V-6
 Hyundai Santa Fe 185 18.8 8-Speed Automatic Inline-4
 GMC Acadia 193 19.0 6-Speed Automatic Inline-4

The Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is known as 'the most awarded SUV, ever'.   The Grand Cherokee exhibits Jeep's legendary off-road capabilities, yet is also built to handle the road with precision and grace. It has claim to best-in-class towing at 7,200 pounds and a crawl ratio of 44.1:1.  For the 2019 model year, the Grand Cherokee adds Blind-spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path as standard on all models, and new standard technology such as Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto.

Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a variety of engines, all of them with plenty of power.   Standard is a 3.6-liter V6 that puts out 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque is standard. A 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 is available, as well as a 360-horsepower 5.7-liter V8, a 475-horsepower 6.4-liter V8, and a supercharged 6.2-liter V8. All engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Competition

Hyundai Santa Fe

The Santa Fe gets a new design for the 2019 model year, making it the fourth generation of the Santa Fe line. It offers a lot of standard features, even on the base model, and high quality cabin materials.  The ride and handling is comfortable and smooth, and inside you get a quiet driving environment, even when there is a lot of road and wind noise.

GMC Acadia

The 2019 GMC Acadia highlights include its fuel-efficiency, a smooth ridge and modern cabin technology to keep you connected. The overall interior design is straightforward with easy-to-use controls. This model is a part of the generation of Acadias that was rolled out in 2017; there are no major changes for the 2019 model year.

The mid-sized SUV segment is one of the biggest in the auto world today. With improving efficiency and lower base prices, those that once would have been shopping for a sedan, may now consider an SUV. While many SUVs that are considered mid-sized offer three rows of seating, there are some that remain a true 5-passenger SUV, the Grand Cherokee being one of them.  For models like the Grand Cherokee and the Santa Fe, what they are missing in passenger space, they easily make up in other ways, such as good fuel efficiency,  feature-heavy cabin spaces and on-road driving dynamics.

But beyond the typical mid-size SUV, the Grand Cherokee has one more advantage...it's a Jeep. And with that comes legendary off-road capability, one that is not found as a 'normal' feature in this class. The Grand Cherokee has found a way to be a smooth-handling road-worthy SUV, while still carrying the Jeep name well. This is why when it comes to selecting a top mid-sized SUV, the Grand Cherokee, without a doubt, should be a top contender.  East Hills Jeep has an incredible stock of new Grand Cherokee models for sale.
