The Toyota Highlander has not been updated or changed for the 2018 year. The Dodge Durango though, as included an all-new engine, a new sporty hood for increased engine cooling by maximizing the airflow, and the addition of a standard rearview camera. Both SUVs come with a third-row seating to help fit the entire family, but only the Durango is comfortable for adult seating in all three-rows.

2018 Dodge Durango Power & Handling

The Durango is offered with the choice of three engines. The first engine is available in single exhaust or dual exhaust. The third engine is a 6.4-liter V8 with 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. These engines are all matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission with the choice of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The maximum towing capacity is set at 7,400 pounds.

2018 Toyota Highlander Power & Handling

The Highlander can choose from two engines. The top engine is a 3.5-liter V6 with 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. These engines are available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. They also have the choice of being paired with a six-speed automatic transmission or an eight-speed automatic.

2018 Dodge Durango Features & Design

The Durango comes with five strong trim levels to choose from. The base trim, the SXT, starts off the lineup with a great list of standard features that includes even a few luxury items like heated mirrors, a keyless ignition and entry, three-zone climate control, and smartphone integration. The lineup follows with the GT, the Citadel, the R/T, and then finally, the all-new top of the line, SRT. Many additional optional features are available to improve each trim level and to help customize them into exactly what you need within your dream SUV.

2018 Toyota Highlander Features & Design

The Highlander comes with six trim levels. The base LE trim is pretty basic with features the include Bluetooth, a rear privacy glass, and a fairly small touchscreen. Each additional trim level, the LE Plus, the XLE, SE, Limited, and the Limited Platinum each add only a little bit more than the previous trim. The only available options on top of what is standard is the choice of a second-row bench on the Limited and Limited Platinum, and a rear seat entertainment system for the LE and LE Plus.

Conclusions

While the Highlander may have more trim levels to choose from, it does lack in availability. The Durango offers fewer trim levels with more features and additional packages and options that help to customize. The Durango also offers a more powerful drive for better towing capability and faster accelerations.
