New 2017 Jeep Compass at East Hills Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM for Greenvale, NY
There's a really neat feature in the five-passenger 2017 Jeep Compass if you don't mind being the talk of the town: optional tailgate speakers that flip-down conveniently! This is definitely a great vehicle for going out camping with the family, after game-practice parking lot hangouts, and the annual drive to that special friend's house that's way, way out on some forgotten dirt back road. Speaking of that, there's very good off-road capability with the available Freedom Drive II system. It has been said that the Compass looks like the little brother of the award-winning Jeep Cherokee, and that's not a bad thing. Come on down to East Hills Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram and see for yourself!
Under the Compass's Hood
There's a 2.0-liter four-cylinder base engine that sees 158 horsepower and 141 pound-feet of torque on the 2017 Compass. Front-wheel drive is mandatory with the base engine, which is fine if all you are doing is driving short trips around town, however you may consider the other engines as you want some more off-roading capability. A standard five-speed manual transmission appears on the 2.0-liter Sport, while the 2.0-liter Latitude is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Available on front-wheel-drive models and standard with all-wheel drive is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that gets 172 hp and 165 lb-ft of torque. The five-speed manual is available on the Sport, or a standard six-speed automatic shifts instead. Also optional on the Sport is the Freedom Drive II, which adds a different CVT that has a crawl mode that replicates the low-range gearing used by 4x4 vehicles. Properly configured, a 2017 Jeep Compass is rated to be able to tow up to 2,000 pounds. In Edmunds testing, an all-wheel-drive Compass with the 2.4-liter engine and six-speed automatic went from zero to 60 mph in 9.4 seconds.
Design of Jeep Compass
The 2017 Jeep Compass is a crossover SUV that is obtainable in two main trims: the Sport and Latitude. The Sport can be had in one of two packages, either the Sport SE or the 75th Anniversary Edition. The Latitude has a High Altitude Edition. There are many packages for the Compass, certain ones becoming available depending on model level and configuration. Both trims can be specified with a rearview camera and a 6.5-inch touchscreen interface, though the navigation system is only on the Latitude. Four-wheel-drive models can be equipped with the All-Weather Capability Group, and every Compass is also eligible for the Freedom Drive II Off-Road Group. Standard tech features on the Sport are Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, a four-speaker sound system with a CD player, satellite radio, a USB port and an auxiliary audio jack. Other standard features for the Sport include 16-inch alloy wheels, foglights, air-conditioning, 60/40-split folding rear seatbacks, a tilt-only steering wheel, cruise control, cloth upholstery, manual accessories (windows, mirrors and locks), and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Package options for the Compass Sport include the Power Value Group and the other option packages in common with the Latitude. The 75th Anniversary package has 18-inch, bronze-painted alloy wheels, bronze outside accents, remote engine start, and a sunroof. The Sport SE package adds 18-inch, gray-painted alloy wheels and matching gloss-gray body trim, the leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, heated front seats, and several other important and fun pieces. The Latitude has not only the Sport's standard features, but also adds the contents of the Power Value Group as standard, plus 17-inch wheels. The High Altitude Edition package adds a sunroof and leather upholstery, among other great things.
